All Things New

I'm spinning so many plates right now that I'm freeling a bit out of control. Yes, you all know about the wedding stress. Things are coming together slowly, but not quick enough for my liking. I'm also working with a professional organizer named Sally. She's teaching me the basics & helping me set up my business. She asked me about 2 months ago what I wanted to specialize in. Some professional organizers work well with people with ADD or the chronically disorganized(yes, it really does exist) but, that's not for me. I told her that I wanted to reorganized & designed the spaces. My brain does that anyway. Whenever I walk into a space, & I do mean any space; a doctor's office, dorm room, store, home, etc.., my brain redecorates & organizes them. This has been happening as far back as I can remember. And now there's shows all about this - Neat, Mission Organization, Clean Sweep. OK, but, here's the weird thing. While I was telling Sally all of this, my cell phone rang. I didn't notice the number & didn't answer it. Later, I listened to the message & it was from an interior designer that I had met in the summer through a friend. She needed help & wanted to talk about us working together!

The award winning designer is Christina Manca & her company is Drawing Board Designs, Inc. You may recognize her from TLC or HGTV because she's appeared on both. We've been working together since the week before Xmas. Right now she's just teaching me all of the business stuff & helping me set up a portfolio. We bid on my 1st job, a dressing room & are waiting to hear if I get it. She's very sweet, but also tough. And you all know that I'm so bad with computer programs & she's witnessed that 1st hand. I've got tons & tons to learn - Quickbook, CAD, Photoshop - I've been freaking out!!! I know that when we get to the creative part I'll be able to knock her socks off, but, right now, I don't think my computer skills (or lack of) are wowing her. And I'm still working at the restaurant while doing all of these things. Although I've been getting shifts covered to work on the other more exciting stuff. And I'm still working on the cookbook, too. I'll put that back on the front burner after my wedding & honeymoon because I'm so ready to be done with it!! That's what I've been up to. If I seem a bit frazzled or out of whack, well, at least you all know why.

Hey Dawn!
The computer programs are only the medium in which to display your creative greatness!!! You've already got the most important stuff (the ideas, designs, motivation, style etc) -- don't let the technical stuff stand in your way! :)

Sorry it took me so long to get over and catch up on all your wonderful news, Dawn! I am sure with just a bit of practice, the computer skills will come along without any big hiccups, and I am so excited for you and all the career and personal life joy. Yay! I'm sorry it's so much going on at the same time, but I'm also glad it's all GOOD and happening to YOU.

Hugs!
