DEADWOOD

The Northeast was hit by a huge snow/ice/wind storm on Tuesday. Tom had to fly to DC for a shoot that afternoon. His plane was the last one allowed to leave LaGuardia
(I was so stressing about that) & he landed safely. I turned on the TV that morning to watch the weather/airport reports & all I received was static. I figured that the terrible weather had something to do with it & everything would be fixed later that day. By 8pm still no TV & I began to freak out! It's not like I can't live without it. I only watch it for the news & a HGTV fix & for my latest obsession - DEADWOOD.

HBO has always had some good shows, like Sex in the City, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, but DEADWOOD is a whole other thing. I have never liked westerns or even had much of an interest in the Gold Rush/Wild West era until this show. It's cool to watch a program that's based on a place that actually existed - DEADWOOD - the territory without laws & see characters based on real people like Calamity Jane. I missed the season premiere on Sunday because I was cooking in RI & missed it again on Tuesday night, so I read the episode review online, which isn't quite the same. So now it's Friday morning & still no cable. I'm hoping Tom can fix it soon so we can avoid another freak out session this weekend.

We don't subscribe to HBO, so I'm embarrassed to say that I've never seen any of the series you mentioned. (I know, I could watch Sex and the City on TBS now...but truthfully, I was single for SO long that it really doesn't appeal to me to watch a whole show about it.) :) My mother just bought my brother a full season of Deadwood on DVD for his birthday...and since we'll be staying with them temporarily, maybe he'll let me watch some of it. I was so shocked when Ian McShane won the Golden Globe...since I thought he was, you know, dead. :)

I know it!! I've been watching Deadwood too! How many times can you say the "F" word in one episode! hahaha

I just LOVE the photo of the old handwritten recipe book! Wouldn't it be a great idea to use some of those in your book? Kind of a collage style thing, with the typed recipe over it? I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud...that photo got me all fired up!

So did you and Tom go for a winter picnic? I think it would be romantic!

I am posting info. on the new journal this weekend...and I still have to email you back about the thing I told you the other day! Isn't that exciting????

hugs

Marilyn,
If/when you watch the show be prepared because like Jes said there's lots of swearing & violence. I didn't even know who Ian McShane was before Deadwood.

Jes, I love your idea of the collage thing for the cookbook. Maybe you & Hope(master collagers) can't work on it.
I'm so excited about the info you emailed me. I can't wait!!!

Ahhh... another Deadwood fan. Do you also happen to watch Carnivale?

I've tried to watch it a couple of times, but couldn't really get into it. I do work with a lot of people who are big fans of Carnivale.
