New Traditions, Weird Traditions

Tom & I celebrated our Xmas on New Year's weekend. We ate lentil soup, drank wine & opened presents. We decided to shop for each other after Xmas & what a brilliant idea that was. We made out like BANDITS!!!! I mean, you get so much more for your money shopping after Xmas, that I think this is going to become a new tradition for us. We both were jumping up & down with glee at the site of all of our bargains.
Speaking of traditions, my family has one that seems pretty strange to other people.
On Xmas day, after "Santa" has come & we are done opening our gifts, we watch our holiday movies. Doesn't seem weird yet? Well, in my immediate family those movies must be by or contain three members of our holy trinity- Marty, Bobby & Al. Yes, I'm referring to the three wise talents of Italians, Scorsese, De Niro, & Pacino. The first year Tom came home with me for Xmas we watched A Bronx Tale & Scarface. Last year was Goodfellas & this year we broke tradition slightly by seeing a movie at night. We went to see The Aviator after Xmas dinner. Tom's family watches Charlie Brown Xmas & old home videos. More "traditional"? Yes, but it's kind of weird watching him at 6 years old playing with a G.I. Joe doll.

I'm going to test out some more crock pot recipes today. It took me 10 minutes to dig that pot out of the cabinet, so I guess I should put it to good use. I will definitely post any recipe that turns out fabulous.

Brilliant traditions indeed! Movies of all sorts (on DVD, esp) are a big feature of weekends home with my folks. I love them! So cozy and homey!

Would love to see what you come up with for the crockpot! I got my mom a big book of crockpot recipes for Christmas because they're supposed to be such time savers...wish I'd gotten one for us too!

Happy New Year!!

Giao, your Mom's going to love crock pot cooking. It's just so easy. And Dennis I know that you're "anonymous". Funny comment!

What a great idea, Christmas Eve on New Years eve, I hate going out on New Years eve, and that seems like a great way to spend it!

Also, thanks for signing up for the snail mail program, I made a card for you tonight and it will post tomorrow!

please post your crock pot wonders! I'm looking for something new to cook for my fiance dad and step brother. Not much of a cook but I'm good with the crock pot!

this is a bit late... but I just found this site! our xmas traditions shifted this year because we had about 8 youth between 13-21 at our place... we stayed up almost all night, slept in, opened presents at noon... and then they insisted on watching Kill Bill 2 (talk about a strange Christmas day movie) -I went in my room and watched Sound of Music instead!
